Zion + Bryce Canyon
We flew into Vegas Thursday morning and rented a sweet Honda Odyssey minivan. On the way to our Airbnb in Springdale, Utah, it started snowing.
Kelly's birthday today! And the weather was much improved. What a better way to spend a birthday than outside with friends.
We stopped for coffee at Cafe Soleil no less than three times during our five-day trip.
Birthday celebrations post-hot tub! It's Jess's brother Trey's birthday on the 5th, so we celebrated with twice as much dessert.
Early morning shuttle ride to (what I found out afterwards is) one of the most dangerous hikes in the world...!
You can't tell from my photos, but this was a terrifying hike. Like, I've been skydiving before, and this was scarier.
When you skydive tandem, you are just along for the ride and the instructor has full control. With this hike, you are responsible for your own safety - so if you step wrong, lose your balance, or let go of the guiding chain...
Did I mention many people have died on this hike? MANY.
As Kelly turned around, intelligently assessing that the risk wasn't worth the reward, I panickingly realized that if I make it all the way up, I still have to come all the way back down.
The only thing that helped a bit was Kang's reassurance that the margin of error is greater than it appears.
45 stressful minutes later, we made it to the top. On which I basically just stayed low and crawled around, not wanting to lose balance standing and fall off the side (which has happened to people).
Tyler was loving it and wanted to eat a snack and take a short nap up there.
Kang got frighteningly close to the edge taking photos, per usual.
Shortly after arriving at the top, Jess and I initiated our descent.
Afterwards, tacos at Whiptail Grill in Springdale.
Around 5 p.m. we drove an hour to Bryce Canyon and checked out a few lookout points.
Zion we loved you and we'll be back!
